Five Simple Ideas to Give Anonymously
Matthew 6:2 (NLT) –”When you give to someone in need, don’t do as the hypocrites do–blowing trumpets in the synagogues and streets to call attention to their acts of charity! I tell you the truth, they have received all the reward they will ever get.”
- When you go through the drive-thru for a coffee, give the cashier enough money to pay for the person’s order in the car behind you.
- Contact your pastoral leaders to identify families in church that have need. Once you identify a family, contact the local utility provider (gas, electricity, water, etc.) and pay their current bill.
- Buy groceries that don’t require refrigeration. If you know of a family or neighborhood that has families in need, randomly place those groceries on their doorstep. If you don’t know of a location, drive around and pray for God to lead you to the right house.
- Listen carefully as you talk with your neighbors or co-workers. Ask God to show you where there are people with genuine need. When the Lord reveals someone, withdraw cash and put it in an envelope. Place that envelope somewhere secure and where you are sure they will find it.
- The next time you are at a restaurant, pray for God to reveal who you can bless with His money. If He reveals someone great! If not, just pick a table. Find a waitress or manager and pay their bill.
When you give like this, be sure to involve your spouse or children if applicable. It’s a great way to disciple your family. Also, seek ways you can draw attention to God through this process. You may be able to leave a note or some literature that gives God the glory.
By giving anonymously, you not only help those in need but also strengthen your own faith and exemplify God’s love in practical ways.
